First meeting of the NUTRACAPS project partners “Research into nanoencapsulated bioactive compounds for healthy nutrition”
Pamplona, September 30, 2025 – The NUTRACAPS project was created with the aim of investigating the efficacy of combining certain nanoencapsulated bioactives, derived from agri-food industry by-products, in the treatment of Metabolic Syndrome and the acceleration of the skin wound healing process.
NUCAPS, the project’s coordinating entity, held the first meeting of the strategic project at its headquarters with all the partners forming the consortium. Throughout its development, processes for obtaining bioactives such as omega-6 fatty acids and quercetin from abundant by-products in the Navarrese agri-food industry will be researched, as well as new natural sources rich in these compounds. The project aims to incorporate these bioactives into functional food matrices and nutra/dermaceutical products, while simultaneously contributing to reducing the environmental impact associated with such extraction.
In addition to NUCAPS, the project integrates two leading research knowledge centers – University of Navarra (UNAV) and National Center for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA)–, a corporate R&D&i unit – ESPIGA I+D-, a pharmaceutical company – Laboratorios Ojer Pharma– and four agri-food sector entities representing all links in the value chain: Iberfruta, Ingredalia, ISANATUR and NAGRIFOOD.
NUTRACAPS will be developed over 2.5 years within the framework of the Government of Navarra’s call for Grants for strategic R&D projects in 2025-2028, co-financed at 40% by the European Regional Development Fund through the 2021-2027 ERDF Operational Program of Navarra.
